HELPING FILIPINOS ONE FIELD AT A TIME

In developing countries such as the Philippines, the detrimental impacts of COVID-19 is magnified tenfold. The vulnerable position the nation is in can be observed in the economy, society, and politics of the country during the pandemic. At present, around three million Filipinos are poverty-stricken, 7.6 million families are famished, 40% of the labour forces are jobless, and 30% of businesses have closed (UNESCO, 2021). While the pandemic cuts across all sectors of society, poor, disadvantaged, and marginalized communities are more liable to the pain, loss, and crisis the pandemic brings. In particular, people like farmers and jeepney drivers are hit hard with disruptions in health, food security, transport, finance, and demand evident. As these people already have a history of injustice in their lives due to the inadequacy in policy, support, and protection, it is important to consider their  situation in times of disaster when inequality is at its peak. 

    

As a response to the grapple of neglected communities, we have established The People’s Produce―a project which intends to transform this country’s farming and food system as a way of ensuring strong food value chains, affordable and nutritious food, and a flourishing agricultural economy. Through this website, we will bring fresh products right out of the farm, quickly into your arms. To a large extent, we will primarily support farmers, jeepney drivers, and other displaced citizens because of the COVID-19.
